Oscar Nominations

The 2015 Oscar nominations for the 87th annual Academy Awards have been released! I consider myself to be a bit of a movie buff, I love going to the cinema with my friends, and in fact, I used to have a movie blog! (It’s long gone now. It didn’t get very far at all.) I love awards season, and watching the E! Red Carpet coverage is always funny, especially at things like the Golden Globes where you get loads of comedians lurking around doing silly things, like Bill Hader this year, joking around when Giuliana tried to hand over to a colleague to cover the next segment.
Recently I’ve not been to the cinema very much and these nominations kind of make me feel very uninformed. Let’s take a look at a couple of categories.
Best Animated Feature Film
– Big Hero 6
– The Boxtrolls
– How To Train Your Dragon 2
– Song Of The Sea
– The Tale Of Princess Kaguya
I haven’t even heard of the last two, and I haven’t seen any of them. To be fair, I intend on seeing Big Hero 6 when it comes out later this month in the UK (and it’s not just because Fall Out Boy did a song for the soundtrack. Honest.) Also, everyone keeps telling me to watch the HTTYD films, apparently they’re my kind of thing. I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter who are really shocked that The Lego Movie wasn’t nominated, but as someone who tried watching it after all the hype, I have to admit it wasn’t quite what I thought it would be, and I didn’t get very far into it.
Best Picture
– American Sniper
– Birdman
– Boyhood
– The Grand Budapest Hotel
– The Imitation Game
– Selma
– The Theory Of Everything
– Whiplash
I haven’t seen any of these either… But that’s okay, as the ceremony isn’t until February 22nd, so I have plenty of time to catch up. I’m impressed that quite a lot of these were movies I have been wanting to see, like Birdman and The Theory Of Everything, so trying to catch up should be quite fun instead of painstaking! I’ll keep you filled in on my path to Oscar enlightenment, but for now I don’t feel like I can comment on other categories such as Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role or Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen at least some of these!
Do you agree or disagree with the nominations? How many of the ‘Best Picture’ films have you actually seen, and are you going to try and watch some? Let me know!
