What Were You Like Six Years Ago?

Recently a load of old Facebook statuses from six years ago have been coming up on the ‘On This Day’ feature and I’ve been feeling compelled to write some kind of a comparison post, to give you an insight into what I was like.

In 2010 I was 18, since I’m a December baby I turned 19 at the end of the year. I was in college for the first half of the year, and university for the second half.
This is mainly what’s making me want to write: nostalgia for college. I enjoyed it, even if I didn’t really do amazingly. I was friends with basically everyone in my year group and loads of people in the year below, too. I could never walk through the halls without saying hi to the majority of people I passed.

I was an extreme music snob. Not in the sense of ‘oh, you listen to that, how low-brow,’ but more in the sense of trying to listen to everything, and share it all. I named my iPod Alan, and he came absolutely everywhere with me. These were the days when iPods lasted several days on one charge… Anyway, I still listen to most of the same bands as I did then; Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Cobra Starship, Blink-182, New Found Glory etc. But FOB had split up not long before, and I was heading into a huge indie phase.

We were allowed to listen to music in lessons whilst we worked, in a lot of classes. So Alan and I had many adventures. Once I lost him, and it was the darkest night without him. It felt like several days, when really it was the very next morning that I went and asked at lost property and the relief that someone was honest enough to hand him in. I never lost him again.

I was really involved with my college actually! I was part of the Forensic club, I was a student representative at Open Evenings, and I was a peer mentor – then, as part of that, my friend Emily and I became anti-bullying advocates and the college put us forward to be featured in an article in the local paper!

I also used to be a vlogger. I’ve touched on this before; I used to love vlogging, all the way up until I completely ran out of ideas of what to vlog about. I’ve been wanting to get back into it though! As Oui Stephanie, this time, and not as Stephanie the Ginger…

How much have you changed in the past six years? Let me know!

  1. I love the on this day feature on FB! I was 32, starting a new relationship and working on a gaming blog 🙂 It was a fun time.

  2. Gosh 6 years ago I was single (only just as I’ve almost been with the OH 6 years now lol), I hadn’t lost so much of my mobility though it was on the decline and I was searching for answers and hoping it would be nothing much. I hadn’t started blogging – wow! Seems like a lifetime ago. x

  3. Six years doesn’t seem that long ago the older you get. My girls were all at nursery a couple of times a week and so I got to spend lots of time with them. Now they’re all at school and I miss all our adventures.

  4. I listened to pretty much the same music as you, haha! In 2010 I had just turned 20 and was in my second year of university and beginning my final year. A lot has changed for me since then as I now have my own grown up flat, I now have a proper career type job and as a person I’ve changed quite a bit too x
