5 Movies in 2017

As you probably know, I’m a huge fan of the movies – so naturally I’ve got a list of 5 movies I’m most looking forward to seeing in 2017!

1) Fast & Furious 8: The Fate of the Furious – April 14th

I’m a huge fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, and I have to be honest, after the tragic death of Paul Walker, I was a bit concerned about them making a seventh, but ultimately it felt like it gave closure to the story. Then they announced there would be an eighth…

It seemed like a really bad idea – like they were just going to the extreme, in order to make more money. But then I saw the trailer, and they’ve actually come up with a really interesting plot twist for this one (how could I doubt them?). And besides which, who doesn’t love Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson?!

2) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – April 28th

Marvel will always be up there on any list of films I’m excited about, so it should come as no surprise that there are two in this list. The first GOTG movie was unexpectedly hilarious, and I really enjoyed it. I knew going into it that I probably would enjoy it – it’s Marvel, after all, but it was the extent of that enjoyment that surprised me.

I’m not going to lie, Tiny Groot is the thing I’m most looking forward to out of anything. Groot was quite obviously the shining star of the first movie, and has ALREADY stolen the show in this trailer. I mean come on – he has a tiny jacket on! I am Groot!

3) Thor: Ragnarok – October 27th

The first two Thor films were brilliant, so I expect nothing less of the third. It’s always hilarious to watch Thor’s antics when he comes down to Earth to hang out with Jane and Darcey. Ragnarok, however, is the Norse apocalypse, so this one might not be so hilarious.

There’s no official trailer yet, but this video of how Thor’s spending his downtime with his new flatmate, Daryl, is a pretty good teaser in the meantime. My personal highlight was Mjölnir taking a nap.

4) Star Wars Episode VIII – December 15th

Source: IMDb

A long time ago, in a comments section far, far away, I once read that if you’re a ‘real nerd’ you can’t be a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars. That’s absolute and categorical rubbish. I love both and I have my whole life – in no small part due to the fact that I come from a family of nerds who love both Star Trek and Star Wars. I grew up watching The Next Generation on TV, and getting excited for the next Episode to come out in the cinema. I imagine the way I felt when Episodes 7-9 were announced was very similar to the way people my age now felt when Episodes 1-3 were announced. However, I’m really glad that The Force Awakens completely shattered all my expectations. I was so ready to hate BB-8 for being a cheap R2D2 knock off, but as it turns out BB-8 is now one of my favourite Star Wars things of all time.

Again, no official trailer just yet – but here’s the video of the TFA cast singing a number of theme tunes. Obviously this will be a bit of a bittersweet movie given the recent tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, and it will be interesting to see where they go, given how things left off at the end of TFA (vague spoiler free-ness).

5) Pitch Perfect 3 – December 22nd

Source: IMDb

“I’m not even that bothered about acapella music really,” (and other things I would never ever say.) I’m not going to lie, I have absolutely no idea where they’re going with this. Pitch Perfect 2 had a – pardon the pun – perfect ending point, and I really don’t know how this film is going to turn out with another sequel with the same characters. Obviously I’ll be going to see it and I’m still super excited for it, but I’m having some trepidation as to the actual content of the movie!

Again no official trailer (why are the films I’m most excited for out at the end of the year?) so here’s a clip of the Bellas’ supposed final performance – somehow I doubt that will be the case. There’s definitely going to be a Bellas performance in number 3.

Which movies are you looking forward to in 2017? Any I’ve not mentioned?
